Papers of Leonidas Rosser [manuscript], ca. 1849-1876.

The papers consist chiefly of manuscript notes on church doctrine and church government, particularly re baptism, papal infallibility, advice to new ministers, reunification of the Northern and Southern churches, Itineracy, the quarterly conferences, lay representation, election of bishops, class meetings, and slavery. Correspondence concerns the Southern Methodist Church, Alexandria, Va., and Bishop Joshua Soule's comments on baptism. There are also newsclippings re Rosser's preaching, publications, and involvement in doctrinal controversies. Some sermon anecdotes, biographical notes, a carte-de-visite portrait, a speech on the 1844 North-South split, and voting tallies from the ballotting for a bishop in 1854 complete the collection.
